A Quick Tour of the CAPuS Digital Repository: a three-part Zoom event series

During May 2021, a three-part series of Zoom events was organised and hosted by Dr Sagita Mirjam Sunara (University of Split – Arts Academy) with the aim of presenting the structure, functionality and content of the Digital Repository of the Conservation of Art in Public Spaces (CAPuS) project.

Each Zoom event featured two speakers – members of the CAPuS partnership. Each presenter discussed one artwork from the repository – an artwork that his/her research group studied during the project. Through these presentations the audience learned what kind of information and documentation has been collected and produced during the project, how these data are shared with the professional community and general public, and how they can assist heritage professionals in the future to plan and execute conservation treatments of public works of art.

The first Zoom event took place on May 5, 2021. Dr Sagita Mirjam Sunara (University of Split – Arts Academy) presented the 1985 Dora Kovačević sculpture Wall from the Sisak Steelworks Sculpture Park in Sisak, Croatia, while Dr Moira Bertasa (representing the University of Turin and La Venaria Reale Conservation-Restoration Centre) talked about the Memorial to the Thyssen Tragedy Victims mural in Turin, which was executed in 2008 by a group of mural artists.

On May 19, 2021 Ilaria Saccani (CESMAR7) presented the mural titled Niguarda antifascista by VolksWriterz (2014) in Milan, and Dr Sagita Mirjam Sunara discussed the sculpture Door by Branko Ružić (1984) from Sisak. This Zoom event was streamed to the CAPuS project Facebook page.

The third Zoom event took place on May 26, 2021, and included the presentation of two murals: A Guarda Escrita Nas Estrelas by Nuvi&Éxfico (2018) in A Guarda, Spain, and Wykreślanie wielkich idei by Galeria Rusz (2006) in Warsaw, Poland. The presentations were delivered by Enrique Alonso Villar (University of Vigo) and Natalia Łowczak (Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw). This Zoom event was also streamed to Facebook.
